subhūtir bhikṣuḥ. subhūtir niṣaṇṇaḥ saṃghe. subhūtir bhikṣu­saṃghe niṣaṇṇaḥ.

subhūtir uttiṣṭhati. subhūtir utthāya buddham etad bhāṣate.

subhūtiḥ:

āścaryam, āścaryam.

mahā­sattvā bodhisattvā anugṛhītās tathāgatena. mahā­sattvā bodhisattvāḥ parīnditās tathāgatena.

bauddho bodhisattvo bhavitum icchet. kathaṃ tena bauddhena sthātavyam?

buddha etat subhūtiṃ bhāṣate.

buddhaḥ:

sādhu, subhūte!

mahā­sattvā bodhisattvā anugṛhītās tathāgatena. mahā­sattvā bodhisattvāḥ parīnditās tathāgatena.

śṛṇu, subhūte! ahaṃ tubhyaṃ bhāṣiṣye. ahaṃ tubhyaṃ bhāṣiṣye yathā tena bauddhena sthātavyam.

subhūtiḥ:

buddhena bhāṣyatām.

āyuṣmān subhūtis tasmin saṃghe niṣaṇṇaḥ.

āyuṣmān subhūtir āsanād utthāya, añjaliṃ buddhāya praṇamya, buddham etad abhāṣata.

subhūtiḥ:

āścaryaṃ buddha, āścaryaṃ yāvat tathāgatena bodhisattvā mahā­sattvā anugṛhītaḥ parameṇānugraheṇa.

āścaryaṃ yāvat tathāgatena bodhisattvā mahā­sattvāḥ parīnditāḥ paramayā parīndanayā.

bauddho bauddhī bodhisattvānāṃ yānāya saṃprasthitaḥ syāt.

kathaṃ tena bauddhena sthātavyam? kathaṃ tena cittaṃ pragrahītavyam?

buddha āyuṣmantaṃ subhūtim etad abhāṣata.

buddhaḥ:

sādhu, subhūte!

bodhisattvā mahā­sattvā anuparigṛhītās tathāgatena, parameṇānugraheṇa. bodhisattvā mahā­sattvās tathāgatena parīnditāḥ paramayā parīndanayā.

subhūte, śṛṇu. sādhu ca manasi kuru. ahaṃ bhāṣiṣye tubhyaṃ yathā bodhisattva­yānāya saṃprasthitena bauddhena sthātavyam. ahaṃ bhāṣiṣye yathā tena cittaṃ pragrahītavyam.

tena khalu punaḥ samayena, āyuṣmān subhūtis tasyām eva parṣadi (saṃghe) saṃnipatitaḥ. sa saṃniṣaṇṇaḥ (niṣaṇṇaḥ) abhūt.

atha khalv āyuṣmān subhūtir āsanād udatiṣṭhat. sa ekāṃsam uttarāsaṅgaṃ kṛtvā dakṣiṇaṃ jānu­maṇḍalaṃ pṛthivyāṃ pratyasthāpayat.

subhūtir yena (yatra) bhagavān (buddhaḥ) tena (tatra) añjaliṃ prāṇamat. so 'ñjaliṃ praṇamya bhagavantam (buddham) etad avocat (abhāṣata):

āścaryaṃ bhagavan, paramāścaryaṃ sugata (buddha), yāvad eva tathāgatena (buddhena) arhatā samyak­saṃbuddhena bodhisattvā mahā­sattvā anuparigṛhītāḥ (anugṛhītaḥ) parameṇānugraheṇa.

āścaryaṃ bhagavan yāvad eva tathāgatenārhatā samyak­saṃbuddhena bodhisattvā mahā­sattvāḥ parīnditāḥ paramayā parīndanayā.

bhagavan, kula­putraḥ (bauddhaḥ) kula­duhitā (bauddhī) bodhisattvānāṃ yānāya saṃprasthitaḥ syāt.

bhagavan, tat kathaṃ tena (bauddhena) sthātavyam? kathaṃ tena pratipattavyam? kathaṃ tena cittaṃ pragrahītavyam?

evam ukte, bhagavān āyuṣmantaṃ subhūtim etad avocat:

sādhu sādhu subhūte. evam etat subhūte. evam etad yathā vadasi.

bodhisattvā mahā­sattvā anuparigṛhītās tathāgatena, parameṇānugraheṇa.

bodhisattvā mahā­sattvās tathāgatena parīnditāḥ paramayā parīndanayā.

subhūte, tena hi śṛṇu. sādhu ca suṣṭhu ca manasi kuru.

ahaṃ bhāṣiṣye te (tubhyam) yathā bodhisattva­yāna­saṃprasthitena (bauddhena) sthātavyam.

ahaṃ bhāṣiṣye yathā tena pratipattavyam. ahaṃ bhāṣiṣye yathā tena cittaṃ pragrahītavyam.

evaṃ bhagavan ity āyuṣmān subhūtir bhagavataḥ pratyaśrauṣīt.

tena khalu punaḥ samayenāyuṣmān subhūtis tasyām eva parṣadi saṃnipatito 'bhūt saṃniṣaṇṇaḥ. atha khalv āyuṣmān subhūtir utthāyāsanād ekāṃsam uttarāsaṅgaṃ kṛtvā dakṣiṇaṃ jānu­maṇḍalaṃ pṛthivyāṃ pratiṣṭhāpya yena bhagavāṃs tenāñjaliṃ praṇamya bhagavantam etad avocat: āścaryaṃ bhagavan, paramāścaryaṃ sugata, yāvad eva tathāgatenārhatā samyak­saṃbuddhena bodhisattvā mahā­sattvā anuparigṛhītāḥ parameṇānugraheṇa. āścaryaṃ bhagavan yāvad eva tathāgatenārhatā samyak­saṃbuddhena bodhisattvā mahā­sattvāḥ parīnditāḥ paramayā parīndanayā. tat kathaṃ bhagavan bodhisattva­yāna­saṃprasthitena kula­putreṇa kula­duhitrā sthātavyaṃ kathaṃ pratipattavyaṃ kathaṃ cittaṃ pragrahītavyam?

evam ukte bhagavān āyuṣmantaṃ subhūtim etad avocat: sādhu sādhu subhūte, evam etat subhūte, evam etad yathā vadasi. anuparigṛhītās tathāgatena bodhisattvā mahā­sattvāḥ parameṇānugraheṇa. parīnditās tathāgatena bodhisattvā mahā­sattvāḥ paramayā parīndanayā. tena hi subhūte śṛṇu, sādhu ca suṣṭhu ca manasi kuru, bhāṣiṣye 'haṃ te yathā bodhisattva­yāna­saṃprasthitena sthātavyaṃ yathā pratipattavyaṃ yathā cittaṃ pragrahītavyam. evaṃ bhagavan ity āyuṣmān subhūtir bhagavataḥ pratyaśrauṣīt. ॥2॥
