he mahīpate (dhṛtarāṣṭra), atha kapidhvajaḥ (kapiḥ (hanumān) rathadhvaje
yasya) pāṇḍavaḥ (arjunaḥ) pravṛtte śastrasaṃpāte (yuddhe) sati, vyavasthitān
dhārtarāṣṭrān dṛṣṭvā, dhanur udyamya, tadā hṛṣīkeśam (kṛṣṇam) idaṃ vākyam
āha (abravīt).
arjuna uvāca:
he 'cyuta (kṛṣṇa),
yāvad ahaṃ yoddhukāmān (yoddhum icchataḥ) avasthitān etān nirīkṣe (paśyāmi),
ubhayoḥ senayor madhye me (mama) rathaṃ sthāpaya.
asmin raṇasamudyame (yuddhe) mayā kaiḥ saha yoddhavyam?
(yāvat) durbuddher dhārtarāṣṭrasya (duryodhanasya) yuddhe priyacikīrṣavaḥ (priyaṃ kartum icchantaḥ) ya ete 'tra samāgatās tān yotsyamānān aham avekṣe (paśyāmi), (tāvat) rathaṃ sthāpaya.
he bhārata (dhṛtarāṣṭra), evaṃ guḍākeśena (arjunena) ukto hṛṣīkeśa
ubhayoḥ senayor madhye rathottamam asthāpayat.
sa bhīṣmadroṇapramukhataḥ, sarveṣāṃ ca mahīkṣitāṃ pramukhataḥ, "he pārtha
(arjuna), etān samavetān kurūn paśya" ity uvāca.
atha pārtha ubhayoḥ senayor api tatra sthitān pitṝn, pitāmahān,
ācāryān, mātulān, bhrātṝn, putrān, pautrān, tathā sakhīn, śvaśurān, suhṛdaś caivāpaśyat.
sa kaunteyaḥ (arjunaḥ) tān sarvān avasthitān bandhūn samaikṣat.
