1.32 – 1.37 (arjuno na mārayitum icchati)
arjunaḥ :ahaṃ na rājyam icchāmi ,kṛṣṇa .ahaṃ na vijayam icchāmi .ahaṃ kasmai vijetum icchāmi ?ahaṃ mama bandhubhyo vijetum icchāmi .ahaṃ mama mitrebhya icchāmi vijetum .kintu mama bandhavo mitrāṇi ca yoddhum icchanti .mayā mama bandhubhiḥ saha yoddhavyam .mayā mama mitraiḥ saha yoddhavyam .
arjunaḥ :bahavo bandhavo māṃ mārayeyuḥ .kintv aham etān na mārayitum icchāmi .ahaṃ mahate 'pi rājyāya na mārayitum icchāmi .eteṣu māriteṣu ,mama sukhaṃ na bhaviṣyati .pāpaṃ mām āgamiṣyati .pāpaṃ sarvān asmān āgamiṣyati .ahaṃ kathaṃ bhaveyaṃ sukhī ?
arjunaḥ :ahaṃ mama bandhūn mārayitvā ,kathaṃ sukhī bhaveyam ?kathaṃ vayaṃ sukhino bhavema ,kṛṣṇa ?
arjunaḥ :ahaṃ na vijayaṃ na ca rājyaṃ sukhāni cecchāmi .kiṃ no rājyena ?kiṃ naḥ sukhaiḥ ?yebhyo vayaṃ vijetum icchāmas te yuddhe 'vasthitāḥ .mayā taiḥ saha yoddhavyam .eta ācāryāḥ putrāḥ pautrā mitrāṇi bandhavaś ca .aham etān na hantum icchāmi ,kṛṣṇa .yady apy ete 'smān hanyuḥ ,aham etān na hantum icchāmi .trailokyarājyāyāpi na hantum icchāmi mama bandhūn .kṛṣṇa ,vayam etān dhārtarāṣṭrān hatvā ,kā prītir bhavet ?pāpam asmān āgacched etān hatvā .etasmād ete dhārtarāṣṭrā bandhavaś ca na hantavyāḥ .vayam etān hatvā kathaṃ sukhino bhavema ?
he kṛṣṇa ,na vijayaṃ na ca rājyaṃ sukhāni ca kāṅkṣe (icchāmi ).he govinda (kṛṣṇa ),kiṃ no rājyena ?kiṃ bhogaiḥ ?kiṃ vā jīvitena ?
yeṣām arthe rājyaṃ bhogāḥ sukhāni ca naḥ kāṅkṣitam ,ta ime prāṇān dhanāni ca tyaktvā yuddhe 'vasthitā .
eta ācāryāḥ pitaraḥ putrās tathaiva ca pitāmahā mātulāḥ (mātur bhrātaraḥ )śvaśurāḥ (patnīnāṃ pitaraḥ )pautrāḥ syālāḥ (patnyā bhrātaraḥ )tathā saṃbandhinaḥ .
he madhusūdana (kṛṣṇa ),aham asmān ghnato 'py etān na hantum icchāmi .trailokyarājyasya hetor api na hantum icchāmi .kiṃ nu mahīkṛte ?( kiṃ nu bhūmirājyasya hetor eva ?na kiṃcid rājyam icchāmi .)
he janārdana (kṛṣṇa ),dhārtarāṣṭrān nihatya (hatvā )naḥ kā prītiḥ syāt ?etān ātatāyinaḥ (ye 'smān hantum icchanti )hatvā ,pāpam evāsmān āśrayet .
tasmād vayaṃ nārhāḥ sabāndhavān dhārtarāṣṭrān hantum .he mādhava (kṛṣṇa ),svajanaṃ hi hatvā kathaṃ sukhinaḥ syāma ?
